Death

“It is one of the greatest truths that all things must inevitably end. At some point we all must grapple with the thought of our own mortality, and the inevitability of Death.”


Death magic thrives in the ability to defy, using vile powers to defile the natural order.
It is able to reap the living and the dead of their peace and prosperity, stealing it for itself.

Due to this however, it struggles to bear sufficient power beyond what it takes from others.
Against fewer foes or in swiftly concluded scenarios, it struggles to attain what it needs.

In essence, Death aims to take the health and prowess of others and relies heavily upon this.


Initiate

Description: The caster attacks a target with their magic, inflicting Roll Damage and [Withered] for 1 round upon failure.
Name: Dead Communion

Effect: Communication
Range: Self/Touch, 5 Blocks
Casting Time: 2 Turns
Duration: 3 Rounds
Casting Roll: Mind + Arcana, 4+ Successes
Description: The caster enchants an undead within range, granting it the ability of speech. This spell requires only the head of the undead, and can be used on things such as Skulls, Shrunken Heads and similar things.

The undead can roll a [Mind + Constitution] against the caster’s spell roll to interrupt the spell and end it early. The undead recalls nothing of the circumstances of its death.

Additionally, the caster can choose to puppet the corpse, using it as a vessel to cast spells from so long as the corpse remains within 5 Blocks of them. The corpse is destroyed upon taking any damage, with no defense rolls, ending the spell.

Description:
The caster enhances themselves, allowing them to drain a target's vitality with their Death Magic. For the duration:
  • The caster becomes [Hastened]
  • Successful spells dealing damage will heal the caster for a Minor Wound.

Apprentice

Casting Roll: Mind + Arcana
Description: The caster creates a damage burst in a nearby area. Targets inside of this area must roll against the casters spell roll, or be inflicted with Roll Damage and [Withered] for 1 round upon failure.
Name: Soul Siphon
Branch: Occult | Death
Level/Cost: Apprentice | 2
Effect: Damage
Range: Melee
Casting Time: 1 Turn
Duration: 2 Rounds
Casting Roll: Mind + Arcana
Description: The caster latches onto a target and begins to siphon their lifeforce. The target must roll a Defense against the caster’s spell roll. Upon target failure, the target will take a Minor Wound. The caster will also heal for a Minor Wound.

For the next 2 rounds this link continues to sap the target's vitality, requiring them to roll a defense against the caster’s Spell Roll to attempt to break the link or otherwise reapplying the spell's effects again. Succeeding the check breaks the link, and ends it early.

The caster can still act and attack normally while the link persists.

Duration: 3 Rounds
Casting Roll: Mind + Arcana, 5+ Successes
Description: The caster revives a nearby dead humanoid within range. This being is capable of following basic commands, and the caster can use their bonus action to command it during their turn.

The Undead Summon has 8 HP, and deals Unarmed damage. It can be assigned two of the following actions per turn, using the caster’s Bonus Action.
  • Move: The undead moves 5 blocks in a direction
  • Attack: The undead attacks using the caster’s [Mind + Leadership]
  • Defend: The undead defends themselves using the caster’s [Body + Arcana]
  • Retrieve: The undead will attempt to fetch an item.
  • Wait: The undead waits in place.
The caster is only to maintain 1 Undead Summon at a time. If the caster recasts this spell while an existing Undead Summon is active, the older instance will lose its properties. If the undead is not ordered to Defend, it gets no defense roll against attacks for that turn.

The undead is dismissed early if the caster is thrown into an unconscious state or if dismissed willingly.
