Harrudaag
Reptilian Creature
Rarity: Uncommon
Description: A large creature, roughly the size of a fully grown American Bison. It is covered in a thick coat of dull green scales, with two large, trunk like limbs that end in large, broad claws capable of digging that start at the creature's shoulders, and a long tail that ends in a forked tip. A Harrudaag is a large carnivorous reptile with a flat face, three rows of sharp teeth, a pair of tusks similar to a walrus, and a small nose. Male Harrudaag are known to have a large pair of horns similar to an oxen that grow from their heads that they use to challenge each other for mates. Their forked tongue is capable of picking up scents, though it usually lurks and ambushes it's prey. A row of thick quills run down it's spine, serving as a form of defense from taller predators. Their primary habitat is swamps and bogs, often soaking in the mud during the day and attacking any unaware travelers who stray too close to where the beast is basking. They primarily live off of smaller mammals, reptiles, and occasionally fish or birds that they can catch.
Practical Use: The scales of a Harrudaag are naturally water resistant, making them useful for creating waterproof boots. Their horns are good to craft into drinking horns, and while their presence is known, they often cause quite the 'local legend' as a fearsome creature for some young adventurer to face. The meat of a Harrudaag is surprisingly good, despite lurking in swamps all day, and when fried can taste similar to alligator or chicken. Harrudaag eggs were a delicacy in some places, often served pickled. Lastly, the tongue of a Harrudaag, when dried properly, can be ground into a fine powder that helps act as a catalyst for various fire resistance potions.
