"We build to sail, we sail to the moon's embrace."
Brief History
House Rein has a long history and started in a dark place. They began as a group of bandits and criminals in the northern mountains of Volaris before the cataclysm. At the time the family was nothing more than a rag tag bunch. Until they met a moon elf named Beren Rein “The last of the Reins”. He spoke of Beauty in the world like the moon stars and seas. Over time and teachings he turned this rag tag bunch into craftsmen and shipwrights using the better lumber inland and hauling it to the coasts. The former Bandits one by one swore either fealty or were bestowed the family name of Rein. With an unwavering loyalty to the family and growth the Rein family became well known as Master craftsmen and priests to a cult following the moon. Both healers and workers, this family was hired by many noble families. A legacy of skill and Healing follows the name Rein. The Cataclysm Was nearly the end for the Family but for the very few who had been away guided by the moon.
Now only one Rein is known to be alive, the current Heir and head of house “The last of the Reins”. House Rein has not completely fallen nor forgotten and is being rebuilt within Sanctuaries walls. The house has regained its footing through its core values and continuous labors in ship building and healing. As the Family rises again They will acquire new heights.
The colors of House Rein --dark green, seafoam, and Silver--reflect the history of the family: Silver showing their connection to the moon and the one who found them. A symbol of hope, truth and penance. Dark green represents the northern forests and the dark place they came from. A symbol of Forgiveness, growth and knowledge. Seafoam in relation to the Sea and waves. Symbolizing Freedom, chaos, and passion.
Hierarchy
The title of Head of House Rein is traditionally passed to the eldest child. If there is no child, the role passes to the next eldest in line, son or daughter. Should there be no one to assume the title, the reigning Head of the house may appoint a successor of their choosing or in the event that is not possible the highest member of the family's staff is formally adopted into the family as the new head. In the event of the Acting head refuses the position, the next eldest assumes the role of Acting Head, serving until a new Matriarch is formally chosen by a vote among the current house.
Marriage & Children
Marriage within House Rein is regarded as a sacred union, rooted in love, mutual respect, and emotional devotion, regardless of gender or identity. The household holds firm that love outweighs status, and its members are encouraged to form bonds of genuine affection, rather than political gain or superficial alignment. Marriage is treated as a lifelong commitment, one to be entered with full understanding of the responsibilities it carries. Ceremonies are often intimate, grounded in symbolism and solemn vows, witnessed by family and usually held at night before the moon. Divorce is rare, and permitted only under grave circumstances, such as confirmed infidelity or abuse.
Mothers are deeply cherished, viewed as near-saintly within the house's culture, for it is through them that the bloodline continues and through their nurturing that the house endures. They are held in the highest regard, with their contributions--both seen and unseen--honored and protected fiercely. All children, regardless of the circumstances of their birth, are to be claimed under the Rein name. Whether born within or outside of wedlock, whether the Parent is noble, common, or otherwise, the child is raised within the family--given the same care, respect, or protection as any other.
Through all its customs, House Rein remains a family first, one defined not solely by blood or union, but by the enduring values of loyalty, compassion, acceptance, and trust.
Indulgences
House Rein following the moon's meaning of purity does not allow for them to partake in many substances. The exceptions to this being in honor of the moon during personal rituals and in drink (in moderation) as wines often were aged in moonlight by the older family. Being in excess at any time was poorly looked upon and many of the family would give gifts to the less fortunate in hopes that they could not only atone for all that they took but also steer others in a better direction.
The Craft
House Rein Has a deep seated passion for their craft and the flair they add to it is often very distinct. Symbolism of the family or the moon in general will cover much of their work in small intricate carvings or artworks. Their ships were built with much of this down there hull in light or dark tones. This passion has often led members of the family to touch at song or arts typically describing the seas and longing for home.
