Character Name: Elaine Lacie

Character Age: 20

Elaine perched herself atop a short wooden stool which was outside the tavern. The warm evening felt nice as the breeze hit her face. She began clapping slowly. Clap clap clap. Until the clapping reached a faster and more steady rhythm.

She began singing. A gentle melody echoed through the streets as she began to vocalize. Then she sang,

"Did you see the sunrise this morning?"

As Elaine began, bypassers soon became audience members when a small crowd began to gather around the stool.

"Did you see the sunset just yesterday?"

The crowd began to clap in rhythm with her. Elaine smiled at the crowd, making sure to keep eye contact with some crowd members as to say "I see you."
A man in the crowd scowled at her silently from the back of the crowd. His gaze nearly burned a hole through her.

"Did you feel the warmth last High Sun, did you see the little kids playin' as they run?"

The man shoved his way through the crowd. As he did so, the loudness of the united clapping began to quiet and instead were replaced with the sound of aggressive footsteps.

"Did you-"

The man interrupted. "Did you think any one of us liked ya?"

Elaine stopped singing. "What?" She was confused.

"This set up you've got going on here.." Her gestured to her little stool. "You can't come in here and start singin' into the streets like we want to hear your blasted voice."

Elaine paused for a moment. She examined the man's tense stance and her near-red face.

"Why not?" She replied plainly.

The crowd backed up as the tension in the air grew.

The man took some steps closer to her. "You're not welcome here, lass. So God help me if I have to see anotha' one of your kind around here."

Elaine replied. "Do you want to sing too?" She hopped down from her stool and gestured for the man to get on it.

He took this opportunity to shove Elaine to the side and get up on the stool.

He spoke to the crowd. "Are you all really willing to listen to this bird-brain here? She's unholy! An impurity on our streets!"

The man rambled on and on until the crowd dissolved completely until no one was left except for Elaine and the man.

She looked at him. "Feel better now?"
