Holidays
Holidays last for their own set amount of time, though generally each lasting no less than four days.
✥ Celestial Holidays
- Triumph's Dawn -- Four days often celebrated in temples and feast halls by most, giving thanks to the Strategist for battles won in the year past; and offering for blessing and guidance in the battles yet to come. Soldiers and other military officials spend the days in observation of Triumph's Dawn as a sort of professional education day, spent in quiet reflection of their battles of the past and also in study of other battles to learn from the victories of others.
- The Wyld Hunt -- In honor of the Green Faith, hunters take to the woods on a sanctified hunt, offering the biggest beast they can slay to the Children. IN the modern day, the hunts are often only given symbolically; hung and bled before an altar to pay respect to the divine, though the catches are still quartered and consumed as usual so as to not waste the hunt.
- Golden Cup -- The Mother's holy days, in which people celebrate with the giving of gifts and donations to the needy and the poor. People also hold small feasts for their friends and family, having tight-knit gatherings with one another.
- Artisan's Faire -- The holy days of the Blacksmith, and the longest day of the year, where artisans of all different disciplines spend time working on a creation in dedication to the Blacksmith in hopes of currying favor. On the day of celebration, artisans gather in the streets and in squares to publicly display their works for all to see, thus creating a literal 'faire'.
- Goldenmourn -- A penitent day spent in honor of the dead. People spend the day cleaning graves and burial sites of their friends and family, offering candles and other offerings. At the end of the night, people gather into a temple for a midnight mass; offering their prayers to the Executioner in the stead of their passed away loved ones who no longer can.
- Civilization's Dawn -- A more lighthearted day of celebration, Civilization's Dawn is spent in thanks to the Dragon. Few more scholars and priests actually prepare any special ritual during this holy day other than to attend temple; though many who spend their life in pursuit of knowledge offer a piece of their findings to the Dragon, burning a book or scroll as offering to him.
- Glimmerseve -- Few are sure how Glimmerseve used to be celebrated, though in the current day it is often little more than a midday service by priests and clerics within temples and gardens in honor of the Court.
- Night's Reign -- During the longest night of the year, people honor the Umbral and their unending work to hold back the incursion of otherworldly creatures into Volaris by holding a candlelight vigil throughout the night, parking themselves on park benches and in alleyways and illuminating the shadows so that there is no place for creatures of the night to hide. In the morning, there is a short service in honor of the Umbral, then people return to their homes to share a family meal of bread and wine.
- Remembrance -- The holy day of the Outrider, observed in memorial of the brave few who gave their lives in defense of the Sanctuary and in order to protect those close to them. Services are held to honor the memories of the fallen, and then blessings are given to soldiers who gave particular sacrifice, such as losing a limb or an eye in battle; asking the Outrider to favor and look after them.
Days of the Week
✥ Aeteria
- The week's start, Aeteria was apparently named after a golden age alchemist who brought about
untold prosperity through his mastery of transmutation. He was given the title of 'genesis' for his
ability to create seemingly anything and everything. - As such, Aeteria is the day in which new business is often opened for those with superstition;
whether professional or personal.
✥ Thuloss
- Named after an apparent renowned stoic of the Golden Age, Thuloss is the day in which official
matters of all manner are often addressed. - Namely, meetings of businesses and partners, nobles and royalty-- even judges and servants of
the courts often perform hearings and arraignments on Thuloss.
✥ Caysar
- Named after an apparent great musician of the Golden Age who supposedly brought upon
many of their ages most well known and period defining works. - For most, Caysar was simply another working day. Though often many superstitious creative
talents such as actors and musicians would schedule performances on Caysar for luck.
✥ Rodin
- Named after a famous bard and troubadour who was said to appear in many stories and tales
of the Golden Age, Rodin was a woman who was capable of doing just a bit of everything. - Because of this Rodin is considered a day to catch up on odds and ends. Doing chores and out
of the way tasks one has been putting off simply because they weren't convenient. Otherwise,
most working class people view Rodin as just another day.
✥ Hanati
- The final push, Hanati was said to be named after a golden age warrior whose unparalleled skill brought about untold ends and kept his people safe for many years.
- As such, Hanati is the day in which people attempt to conclude their business; the final push before the day of rest. Those more superstitious often consider it bad practice to go into the week's end with open ends.
✥ Serayael
- Colloquially called "weeks end" (or literally the weekend), Serayael is said to be named after a golden age scholar whose rhetoric brought upon peace and understanding between people.
- It is considered the 'day of rest' at the end of the week, Businesses often have reduced hours during Serayael, or are closed all together.
